Progress 4/29

This weekend I went home to take my photographs. For my artist book I wanted it to have an old and almost antique feeling about it and I also want to have my photographs have the same feeling. So I shot my photographs in a professional black and white film and I originally wanted to develop them in a dark room but I heard unless you are a photo major its very hard to get into the dark room. So i came up with a second option and that was to have Ritz develop them onto photo paper but they told me it would take two week to and i dint have that time. In the end with some help I was able to find a place in Boston called Colortek that is going to be able to develop them alot faster. As Im waiting for my prints to be developed Im going to start making my final artist book.

Source Statement for Final Project 4/29

The book called The Giving Tree has inspired me for my project but what inspired me the most about the book was the tree and the boy's relationship and how their relationship changes over time. For my photographs I wanted to show the relationship between a cat and a girl as the girl gets older and older the cat and the girls relationship changes as time progresses. I have five different time periods and they are; a little girl, teenager, young adult, older adult and the a grandmother. The cat and the little girl has a playful side but as the girl get older their relationship slowly gets less and less playful and by the time the girl is a grand mother their relationship is just enjoying each others company.

Progress 4/22

For this week I have bought all of my materials to make my book and I have even made my mock up for my artist book because I remember that the last artist book I made I ran into some construction problems. So its very important for me to make a mock up just incase I run into some problems which I have not yet with my mock up. Originally I was suppose to take the photographs first but I need to go home in order to do that and last weekend iI was not able to. This weekend I am able to go home and to take the photographs. So this week I am planning on going home to the photographs and to start making my actual artist book.

Source Statement for Final Project 4/22

After leaving last class and not having my content quite clear I ended up going back to the drawing board and starting over. I knew I still wanted to have my source be the relationship between things but I dint know how to portray that. I soon remembered this children book called The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The book is about a boys relationship with a tree in a forest. The tree loves the boy very much and gives the boy anything he wants but he soon demands more and more of the tree as the grows older, the tree gives him what he needs. In the end the boy comes back very old and tired and the tree tells him that she has nothing left to give but all the boy needs is a place to rest so he rests on her stump and the tree becomes happy. This book inspired me to photographs of the relationship between my cat and and girl and showing their relationship change and progress through time as the girl gets older.

Critique of Classmates Book

All of the artist books came out really well done but there is one in particular that has stuck out to me the most and that is Natasha Barclay’s. I think she did a thoroughly job with her artist book. She was able to convey her source clearly and it was pretty evident that her source was her journey from Cape Cod to Massart but also her transition from the Cape to the city of Boston. Her using the shell as the outer cover symbolizes her home and then once you open the shell all of these different pictures pop up of the city of Boston. When I first opened the shell I thought it was going to open all the way up but it dint maybe for next time it would be nice if the shell did open all the way up. Also I think it would have helped if some of the pictures popped up just a little bit more so that you could have more of that pop up feeling. She did a good job talking pictures that really represent the city. There is also a map on the top inside shell it might would have been nice if the map covered the whole back of the shell but I thought that the map was a nice touch overall.

Refection on my Progress 4/15

I feel I have made progress with my source through out the semester. From divorce starting out to be my first source statement to my second source statement looking at the different kinds of relationships people have. To now exploring with things that mirror our relationship with people. Im trying to push beyond how people interact and now taking it to a whole new idea. Lastly I feel like I have come up with some examples that I will be able to photograph.

Source Statement for Final Project 4/15

For my final project I want to step way form different types of relationships and instead focus on the relationships with things that mirror our relationship with people. I believe that these relationships are able to fill that sense of security and comfort in our lives. These relationships are formed through society and are own pre-concieved notions. Some examples would be cars and girlfriends, pets and children, computers and friends, young adults and working out, cell phones and friends and family.

I plan on making an artiest book. As for my book I was thinking about book binding and having 1o pages. For my images I want to take pictures of my examples and do a photo collage.
