Artist Book Source Statement #2

Two artists who have really helped and inspired me with my source are Picasso and Mary Cassatt. I love the relationship between mother and daughter in Cassatt work. Your able to feel the love, care and warmth the mother has for her daughter. I want to be able to show in my silhouette of mother and daughter how Cassatt’s shows that closeness between the two.

The abstracted design of Picasso's work has helped me decide to do silhouettes. I find how his lovers interact with each other sweetly and I want to be able to also portray that in my work. The simplicity of Picasso design is what I wanted to incorporate in my images. I want to show the interaction and relationships between lovers, mother and child, friends, father and son and children. Lastly I wanted to use the back of the accordion so I decided to pick flowers that symbolize the different relationships.

Artist Book Source Satement

For my source Im going to move out of divorce and move more into relationships. I found Picasso paintings of relationship and Mary Cassatt paintings of mother and children to be inspiring and helpful for me. For this project Im planning on making an accordion artist book out of chipboard and then covering it with a greenish blue paper. My images are going to be silhouettes of relationships between mother and child, lovers, children and father and daughter. One of my images also might be a rose to symbolize love. I plan on using different kinds of fabrics for my silhouettes and ink, pen and maybe watercolor.

It has been a long struggling, frustrating and successful process.I remembered in the very beginning of this process I had no idea where I was going to go with my source. I was not sure on how everything was going to come together and work. I had a hard time seeing the end result. As soon as I started to make my story board I felt like I had a better idea of how my shots where going to come to work. Then I got into shooting my scenes but before that I had to learn how to use a camera and lighting and that was all new for me. At times it was hard for me to remember or to recall how you work the camera. When I started shooting I felt it was all a new learning experience and that my shot might not come out the way I might want them. I ended up reshooting some scenes but even now Im not sure if they are what I want them to be. Then we go into editing and that was probably the hardest and most frustrating step for me. Alot of it I felt like had to do with my lack of experience using final cut express but once I felt like I had a better handle on editing it got a little easier. In the end I am happy with my and satisfied with my final product.

Marc Riboud

Marc Riboud was born in France and got his first camera when he was 14. He started his career as a photojournalist in the 1950's. He was a shy photographer who would hide behind the camera cause he wanted to see but dint want to be seen. He is known to have photographed all over the world in many different kinds of situations. His work is known to be compassionate toward humanity, graphic and strong.

Eve Arnold

Eve Arnold was born on April 21, 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born into a Russian and Jewish immigrant family. Her photography career began in 1946. While working for a photo finishing plant in New York City. Later she became the first women member of the Magnum Photo agency. She is known for her work to be sympathetic, capturing that closeness and intimate. In her career she has photographed Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth 11, Jackie Kennedy, Joan Crawford and many more. She has also done work in Russia, China, and South Africa.
